Toddler Holiday Gift Guide: Clothes

I may have purchased more then half of these for The Squeeze for Christmas or right now ;-) haha. I just couldn't help myself. So, I know every toddler is different, but all I know is Lemmon so I based this gift guide off what I think a toddler like Lemmon would like. I hope your bebita will love them too!!

#1 Pajamas: How stinkin' cute are these floral pj's? I love two piece pj's for Lemmon because if she has a blow out I don't have to wash the whole outfit. Just the bottoms and then I can switch in some leggings. Or if it's to warm to wear both but to cold to wear a shirt and bottom then these are the best!

#2 Heart Micro-Fleece Pull Over: You can never have to many jackets during the season. This is something great that she can just throw on if your running to the store or even layering underneath a puffer jacket. Plus with the little hearts, it's so cute!

#3 Mini Rain Boots: Confession, I have now ordered all 3 pairs for The Squeeze! They are to die for in person! And with the price point, I wish they had more colors! They are great condition too! Definitely stay in their same size or size down. It says to size up, but don't listen to it. Lemmon wears a 5 or 6 and both are great on her. They button on the side and she loves to help put them on. If you've seen the mini-melissa boots, then these are seriously the most perfect dupe! Order these, you won't be disappointed. Oh yah! They come from China, so be expected to wait about 3-4 weeks.

#4 Minky Blanket: Lemmon's favorite blankets are her Minky's. We have quite a few of them but have to keep one or two in the car and then two in her crib and then two more are dragged around the house. They are so soft and keep her so warm!

#5 Mini Boss Hoodie: I died when I saw this! I had to snag one for Lemmon. And with how cheap it is! I got her a size 1- 2 years.

#6 Faux Fur Sleeve Pull-over: I love anything with fun sleeves for Lemmon. I'm not a fan of prints or wording so sleeves like these are perfect to spice up an outfit. Plus, anything with fur Lemmon calls her "Suave" haha, she will sit there and pet her shirt all day!

#7 Hooded Snow Coat: I have yet to find a snow coat I love for The Squeeze. This one is so adorable with the fur lined hood and the little pom pom on the top. I wanted something that was thick for her but cute also. They also have it in black!

#8 Checked Flannel Dress: I love checker print on kids. It's adorable! This dress would be so cute with some tights and booties!

#9 Knit Mittens: How adorable are these?! They are perfect for being out and about to keep those little fingers warm! And they go perfect with #13.

#10 Cozy Socks: Lemmon has this fascination with socks lately. "Suaves" plus socks. She will be in heaven!!!

#11 Fur Bow Uggs: I just about died when I saw these. I have a pair of uggs that look pretty similar to these and Lemmon is obsessed with them. I mean, how cute are mini uggs?!

#12 Embroidered Skinnies: It took me a second to get on the embroidered train, but when I saw these I fell in love! I like how simple they are. Skinny jeans are so cute on babies!

#13 Bow Scarf: I am all for layers! And how cute is this bow scarf. It's not scratchy or irritating and will keep them nice and warm.

#14 Lash Beanie: This has been in my cart for a bit. I keep going back on forth only because Lemmon's fro is hard to hide under a beanie haha. Other then that I would jump right on it! I love lash anything!

5 Things I wish I Had Known About Adoption

1. Failed Adoptions Are Common
We knew failed adoptions were real but we thought we were invincible. So, I guess when ours happened it hit us hard. We thought how could we go on,  do we even adopt, why us? But when we opened up more about our failed adoption we realized how common these are. Now a failed adoption doesn't mean that you sent in our profile to a birth mom and weren't chosen. A failed adoption is when you were matched with a birth mom and she decides to parent. Whether it was a little after the match was made or right after the baby is born. (I felt like I needed to clear the air on what it specifically is) As hard as it is, it is common around adoptive families. Advice: don't think your invincible, and talk about what you would do in that circumstance so you are ready if it were to come. But let me tell you, you do recover from it, it just takes time.

2. There Is A Huge Adoption Community Out There That is So Supportive
As soon as we got our Lemmon, friends, family, followers, strangers, ANYONE really, was popping up telling us about how close adoption is to their lives. We couldn't believe it! We still get it to this day and we love hearing how their lives have been blessed because of it. We've relied on these people many times when we hit some bumps in Lemmon's adoption. I've called up friends or family and asked their advice with an adoption situation and it's helped so much.  If adoption is close to you, open your mouth! Because people have opened their mouth to us, Lemmon now has so many people to turn to and relate to. Thank you!

3. Legal Adoption and Emotional Adoption Don't Always Happen At The Same Time. And There Is Nothing Wrong With That.
This goes for both side of the adoption. Riley felt like he didn't fully connect with Lemmon till she could start interacting more (3-6 months). He loved her so much but the bond for them two didn't start till later. And that's okay! It was so comforting to have our social worker meet with us every few months and go over the bond we were having with Lemmon. She reminded us that it takes time and if you do all you can then the bond will come. I can't fully speak for our Birth Mom, but we would receive text from her right after the adoption checking in on Lemmon (we personally loved it) She knew it was done legally but emotionally, she wasn't ready to go. AND THAT'S OKAY! Embrace it!

4. You Don't Know Your Birth Mom Until You've Met Her
We thought we had it all figured out. We talked with our birth mom on the phone before Lemmon's birth and asked lots of questions. We knew we wanted to get her a gift to give to her when we all left the hospital. We went shopping for her a few times and had our cart full of pampering stuff, clothes, food, etc, but always ended up putting it back. We decided to just wait till we got to New Orleans. After being with her for a few days, we understood a little more of her personality. We asked more in depth questions and felt more at comfortable face to face. We decided to get her something that we thought would mean more. The look on her face when we gave her her gift was priceless. We wanted it to mean something and it did. Wait to get to know your birth mom face to face if you can and if you can't, pray that you'll understand a little more of who she is. We just assumed we knew so much about her after one phone call.

5. How Hard It Is To Say Goodbye
No one told me that part. I knew, of course, that we would have to say goodbye to our birth mom, our angel. But I didn't know how hard, sad, heart wrenching, emotionally draining it would be. I wish I hugged her more. I wish I thanked her more. I wish I cried of gratitude in front of her more, rather then in the hallway. I wish I had pictures of all of us parents with Lemmon. But Mostly, I wish I hugged her more. Nothing can compare to that goodbye. Take the hardest saddest moment in your life and times it by 1000. But the most amazing thing is, you recover from it. I didn't know if I would or how I would share that part of Lemmon's adoption with her. But I'm confident that that will be the most memorable part of Lemmon's adoption.

*** These are what we feel we wished we would have known before we had adopted***

Lemmon's First Birthday

Happy first birthday to The Squeeze!! Everyone said the time would fly by, but it flew by even faster then what I thought. I feel like Riley and I were just driving to Las Vegas to catch a last minute flight and sleeping in the JFK airport for 8 hours to get to New Orleans.

I'll never forget the day we saw her first. Or when I held her for the first time. Or when we drove back to our hotel as a family of 3.

Riley said something that had me really thinking a few weeks ago. "You may not be able to relate to a woman who has given birth or who has been pregnant. But you have the experience of adoption that most do not have." All 3 of us have this incredible story and experience that is so dear to our hearts and is a very rare opportunity for many. I love adoption. I love what it has done and will do for my family. I love my sweet Lemmon for accepting two birth parents in the life before. I love our strong birth mom who made the most selfless decision. I love adoption and am proud of it!

Our Adoption Story

We are completely speechless that not only a month and a half ago we were finishing up our adoption papers. I bet that we weren't going to get a baby till October and Riley said not till December. The Lord was definitely laughing at us when we said that ;-)

As many of you know, we were matched with twin boys which ended very badly for us. We were heart broken, but through out the whole process, both Riley and I had complete peace that those boys would be okay. That's the only thing that got us through that time.

After we had gotten home from Indiana (where the twins were) we were presented with about 4-5 different profiles. Some didn't feel right and others we sent our profile to but the craziest things would end up happening. We sent our profile over to a mother, but by the time it got to her she was in critical condition from a car accident. Then we sent our profile to another mom and she stopped responding after she gave birth. All of these happened to be boys. We just felt like we were supposed to have a boy. Again, the Lord was probably laughing!

We got a text from our social worker asking us if we were interested in a girl. By this time, we decided to let all of our expectations down and go with whatever felt good and was presented to us. We said sure, why not (plus I secretly have been wanting a girl from the start) The social worker sent us over a picture of the birth mom and the daughter she currently has. Both Riley and I were stunned. They were beautiful! No really, just stunning! We were also, a little freaked out that her daughter looked like she could be mine and Riley's. We gave the "okay" to our social worker to send our profile over to our birth mom. Of course our guard was up, but we were still super anxious.

About a day later we got a text from our social worker saying the birth mother loved us and has chosen us to be the adoptive parent. She sent us over a text that the birth mom had said.

"...She'll (Lemmon) get a huge amount of attention being the only one and I just want her to feel like the most special little girl in the world despite anything and my decision..."

That right there shows what kind of women our birth mother is. So self-less. We were able to talk to her on the phone a couple days later. Can I tell you, I've never been so nervous for a phone call in my entire life! Riley thought I was going to cry haha. We talked for about 20 minutes about ourselves and her. When we were telling her about us, she said "I already know all of that. I memorized your profile."  She wanted to make sure her baby was going to a family that she knew and loved also.

**This all happened about a week and a half after we were home from Indiana. We knew about Lemmon for about a week before going out there. So, yes, we did tell a little fib to friends and family. But it was for a good cause ;-) **

(Lemmon and her birth mom)

Our birth mom planned to be induced so that we could be there right when Lemmon was born. So we booked our flight for stand by out of Salt Lake for Wednesday afternoon. Tuesday Afternoon we got a call saying we wouldn't make it on that flight and if we left on the next flight then we wouldn't make it in time to see Lemmon right after. So, Tuesday at 9:00 pm we drove to Vegas and then left on a flight from there Wednesday afternoon. Flew to New York City and had a lay over for 8 hours. It would have been cool to see the City if our lay over wasn't in the middle of the night! haha, so we found a little corner in the airpot and tried to get as much sleep. Which meant about 45 minutes ;-)

We finally got into New Orleans and all the feelings of the twins came flooding back (that's when it all went down hill) but by lots of praying together, we still felt comforted.

We later found out she wouldn't be having Lemmon till Friday now. So we decided to hit up down town and keep our minds occupied as much as possible. Friday morning we woke up and waited, and waited, till about 2:00 we were told to go to the hospital and then wait for a call to go up to the room. We were freaking out!! We drove to the hospital, sat in the waiting room and said one last prayer together. We finally got the okay to go up to the room so we went and asked the receptionist where to go. Well, turns out we went to the wrong hospital on the opposite side of town. I told you, we were freaking out!

We drove to the right hospital, which happened to be 4 minutes from our hotel room. Score! Right before we walked into Birth Mom's room, we squeezed each other's hand and said "You ready for this?" A huge breath from the both of us and we opened the door.

The first thing out of our birth mother's mouth "You're here! You actually came! You guys are so beautiful!" Riley and I were immediately comforted. We sat and talked for a bit about her delivery. I hope Lemmon get's her birth mother's patience. She is incredible.

Riley and I then were able to go to the nursery to finally see Lemmon. They opened the curtain and there she was! In all her puffy, tons of hair glory! I was balling, Riley was smiling from ear to ear. She was ours.

For the next few days, we would get to the hospital at 9:30 a.m. and stay till 7:00 p.m. Our poor birth mom was probably sick of us by then. We were able to get to know our birth mom so much over those few days. She is funny, kind, beautiful, self-less, patient and has the most christ-like love I have ever seen in anyone.

We were all dreading Sunday, obviously for different reasons, but it was the day our birth mom would sign her rights away. We stepped out of her room and waited in the hall. After about 30 minutes our social worked walked out and said that Lemmon was officially ours. Riley and I hugged for what seemed like a life time and I balled my eyes out.

I of course was beyond happy, but this women had turned into my sister these last few days. I couldn't imagine what she was going through at the time. I cried for her heart ache, I cried for her sacrifice, I cried for her self-less heart, I cried simply just for her.

Monday morning, Lemmon and Birth mom would be released from the hospital and we would be taking her home. I already am crying thinking about that day. Birth mom, Lemmon and I stood outside the hospital while Riley and her boyfriend went to bring the cars around. I can't even begin to describe that moment in my life.

No doubt, it was as sacred as when I was sealed to Riley. Our sweet birth mom handed Lemmon over to me as we both were sobbing. I couldn't even imagine what this incredible women was going through. She was now my hero. She loved Lemmon so much that she knew this was exactly what was needed. I know without a doubt that the angels of heaven where there helping Lemmon's birth mom pass her over to me, and the angels of heaven were there helping me receive Lemmon into our arms. That moment will ever be engraved in my memory.

We then took our little Lemmon back to our hotel and just stared at her all day. This whole experience has molded me into who I have always wanted to be come. Yes, it was the hardest thing I have ever had to endure. But, I would do it all over again, just to get sweet Lemmon.

If there is one thing I have learned in the past few years of infertility and adoption is, FAITH! Have complete faith in the Lord. Faith that he may heal you. Faith that he may not heal you. But most of all faith in his timing. The only reason we have Lemmon is because of our Heavenly Father. He planned this all out so perfectly and like I said. I would do it all over again just to get Lemmon.

We Chose This

A couple weeks ago Riley and I were driving to the temple and I told him that I was having a hard time when people found out about our story because they would say "Oh wow! I couldn't go through any of that!" And I wanted to tell them "And you think I can? You think I chose this?!" I then kinda stopped in the middle of my sentence and Riley just laughed (He already knew the answer) I did choose this! I chose this life and all these trials before I came to this life.  I chose infertility.

I was able to have some much needed pondering time in the temple. I chose this life with the trial of infertility because I knew I could survive it with the help of my Heavenly Father. I chose this trial because I knew it would help me become more like my savior.  I sometimes will get a glimpse on possibly why I chose this trial. It definitely has been a hard one, but one that has broken me down and molded me into something better. Yes, sometimes I wonder why I didn't choose the trial of eating to many cheez-its or the trial of playing to much Zelda  ;-) but I guess I wanted a little more of a challenge.

A friend recently made the comment that everything seems to be falling into place with our adoption. It brought me to tears because she was right and all I could see at the time was all the things that were stressing me out and giving me anxiety. Our adoption couldn't go any smoother. Our agency has been so quick and supportive. Our documents and paper work has come together perfectly. Our insurance is being very generous. We have had so many incredible friends and family serve us during this time. Our adoption is going perfectly. In Riley's words: "This is going a lot faster then I was planning!"

We are in complete awe of seeing how the Lord's hand has played out in this process. It's been such a sacred experience to see the face of Christ in those serving us.

It's All About Waiting..

{Little peak into our home}

Our most asked question right now is "Where are you at with the whole adoption process?" Oh man, I wish there was just one straight answer for this. With adoption you are doing a million things but also waiting. Waiting is always going on with adoption ( If I haven't learned patience with infertility than I am definitely learning patience now haha)
Right now we are WAITING (there's that word) for our home study in a few weeks. Basically, we have our incredible social worker (I haven't met her yet, but she has been so sweet and patient with all our rookie questions) come to our home for a few hours and just talk with us. She will ask us all sorts of questions about ourselves, our parenting skills, our families, basically it's like getting a pat down but in the comfort of your own home ;-) She will also take a look around our home to make sure we are clean sanitary people. All of this will tell the agency if we are eligible to be parents. This is the go ahead for birth mom's to start looking at our profile.
A lot of people have asked if we are nervous for our home study. Or a lot of people who have had home studies done have told us not to be nervous. But the truth is, we're not. We are so excited and confident that all will go well! We have been waiting for quite a few years for a baby to come to us, so now that the big test is here, we are ready!

As we are waiting for our home study to happen, we are filling out paper work, after paper work, after paper work. Guys, it's  A LOT of paper work. When I first heard about all the paper work we had to fill out I thought "okay! I am just going to take one day and just fill it all out! Get it done!" But boy! It's exhausting! Maybe I am just a sissy but I answer about 5 questions and I need a break. They are pretty in tense questions. "What are your neighbors going to think when you have a child through adoption?" (If I knew my neighbors that well then it would be an easy questions) "How are you going to explain to others about your adoption" " What does your family think of you adopting" One word answers just aren't cutting it. So, I am almost done with all the questions and then it's on to the legal stuff. Finger prints, background checks, etc. It takes a lot to adopt, guys. But I hear it's worth it ;-)

We are also working our butts off to save every penny we have and others are working their butts off to raise money for our little child. Our hearts have never been so full (Another post on that soon)

A lot of people have asked some questions that we are able to give straight forward answers with.

Do you guys have a birth mother chosen? No, our paperwork and background check need to be finished first.
Do you guys have an agency picked out? Yes! We already love our agency so much and have heard nothing but amazing things.
Do you guys want a boy or a girl? When you've been waiting this long for a baby, you accept whatever you can get. (Riley's rooting for a house full of boys though)
Can you choose your birth mother? Yes and no. A birth mother will choose us and we will pray to know if her child is meant to be a part of our family or someone else's. We have the choice to say no.
Are you adopting internationally or domestically? We are adopting domestically (Inside the U.S.)
Do you have names picked out? DUH! Been waiting this long, we have a whole basketball team of names (no we will not be adopting that many!) But we are keeping it between us until we have them in our arms.
Is your nursery set up? Sadly, no. We are saving every penny to adopt and then we will start finding things for the nursery.

We are extremely excited for everything going on. Even though we have been WAITING (see, I told you) for so long and will continue WAITING for a bit longer (hopefully not to long), we have complete faith that our Heavenly Father will place a baby in our home when the time is right.

Here We Go!

Welcome!! This little blog of ours has merely been just a thought and we can't believe we are seeing it come to life. Some might think "Um guys, it's just a blog. Everyone and their child (seriously) has a blog." You are so right, but this blog means one more step closer to our dream for us. We have put so much thought and prayers into sharing our story and our journey through it all.

We are so excited and thankful to announce we are ADOPTING! It brings tears to my eyes and goosebumps to know that our time is here. It has taken a few years for us to get to this place, even just sharing it with others, and we are so excited that we can now!

We know there are so many questions that everyone has. We really hope we can answer them all for you, but we hope that you also understand how sacred and personal some things are to us and we are not ready to share yet. Maybe one day we will or maybe we wont ever get to that point, but we will do our best to bring light to as much as possible.

The purpose of our little blogging corner is so much! We wanted our family and friends to share with us in this journey. You all have helped in one way or another and we can't thank you enough! Sharing the joy in this journey is a little thank you we can give. We also created this blog so we could get help sharing our story. "There's strength in numbers" and we fully believe in that quote. The more our story is put out there, the more likely our birth mother will find us faster. So, please share as much as possible!
But most importantly, we created this blog so our incredible birth mother could get to know us and what we were up to on a weekly basis. We want her to feel at peace with the family she is trusting her child with. Our blog isn't just our journal for our day to day activities but our thoughts and love towards our birth mother.

So WELCOME! We are The Palmers and we hope we can inspire, lift your spirits, bring tears and excitement as you read from our world.
